Gnathology is one of the most important fields of 21st-century dentistry, focusing on the jaw-tooth system. Any procedure performed in the oral cavity—whether therapeutic, orthopedic, or orthodontic—must take into account the patient’s individual characteristics, the condition of the temporomandibular joint, and a manual assessment of the facial and neck muscles. The main goal of gnathological treatment is to correct asymmetry of the lower face, centralize the mandibular and temporomandibular joint heads, and normalize occlusion.
